Knights Edged By Fairport

Despite outshooting Fairport, the McQuaid Jesuit Knights fell to the Red Raiders by the score of 2-1 in first round action of the Bob Schwartz Memorial Tournament at Genesee Valley Rink on November 23.

The early action flowed back and forth with the Knights getting the better chances. However it was the Red Raiders who struck first at 11:25 of the opening stanza, when the Knights were unable to clear the puck from behind their net. After the puch struck the side of the net, Kyell Howell tucked the puck in past Knight's goalie Ben Krenzer.

McQuaid quickly retaliated while on a power play, when Patrick Gerrie roofed a rebound to Faiport goalie Rich Carlston's glove side at 12:50. Mitch Bailey and Blake Sanderson assisted on the goal.

The second period was dominated by penalties to both side on which neither team capitalized. But, at 13:27 Fairport's John Kaminska took a rebound and passed to Ethan Witkop who scored a weak side goal.

The Knights continued to pelt Carlston with pucks, but were unable to score. Key chances in the third period were a breakaway attempt by Black Sanderson which was gloved by Carlston; and a Mitch Bailey slapshot from the point which was tipped just wide by Nick Caton

Ben Krenzer made 12 saves for the Knights while Rich Carlston stopped 26 for the Red Raiders.
