Knights Edge Lakers 2-1
The Knights beat The Skaneateles Lakers 2-1 in first round action of the Skaneatles Tournament at the Allyn Arena on January 11. Despite yieldng a goal in the first minute of play, the Knights rallied to tie the game at 13:30 of the first stanza when junior forward Adam Reask took a Sean Knightly pass and beat the Skaneateles goalie low. The second period was filled with a lot of skating action and many penalties. Midway through, senior goalie Ian Harris was injured and pulled from the game when senior defenseman Mitch Bailey tripped a Laker forward during a breakaway attempt who then went careening into Harris. Senior goalie Ben Krenzer stepped in to play flawlessly for the balance of the game. Although the Knights gave up better chances to the Lakers, both Harris and Krenzer were strong in net, combining to make 21 saves. The winning goal came at 4:21 of the third period, when the gold line of Knightly, Reask and Alex Pautler were buzzing around the Lakers'net during a sustained attack. Sean Knightly's pass was tipped by a Lakers' defenseman causing the puck to pop over the goalies' outstretched glove hand.
The Knights return to play Canadaigua in the championship game.
