Knights and Panthers Tie

The McQuaid Knights and the Pittsford Panthers fought to a 2-2 at the Blue Cross Arena on November 29. The Panthers struck early, at 3:36 of the first period, when Adam Witzel slid a Jase Stahlecker pass past Knights senior goaltender Brian Johnson. The power play goal came as a result of an interference penalty on junior defenseman Andy Lane. The Knights continued to have difficulty staying out of the box during the first period. Amassing three additional penalties that period prevented them from generating any offense.

The second period began with the Knights killing off another Panther power play. But McQ gave up another goal at 8:54, as they attempted to kill off a penalty assessed to senior forward Sean Knightly for interference.

McQuaid’s scoring began in the third period when at 3:36 sophomore forward Alex Pochodylo took a pass from junior forward James Sturnick and beat Pittsford’s Jake Rudman. The Knights continued to press, but were repeatedly thwarted by the Panther defense. With regulation time running out, senior forward Adam Reask gained control of the puck in the Pittsford zone and passed it to teammate Andrew Lane on the right point. Lane’s low shot on net was tipped by senior forward Nick Parrilli past Rudman for the tying goal.

A five minute overtime period followed regulation time, but neither team was able to score. The Knights outshot Pittsford 23 to 21.
